A quick trip to Amwell this morning to see if yesterday's osprey had roosted. No sign after heavy overnight rain. A digger clearing channels and adding a new scrape meant that many birds were not present. Several male pochard and shoveler have arrived over the last few days but no sign of waders or anything unusual. A check on Hollycross lake and Tumbling Bay gave views of plenty of tufted duck and 2 juvenile great crested grebe, but another shower forced me back to the car and into the cafe at Stansted Abbotts for a warming coffee.
