A quieter trap last night as temperatures fell with clear skies. By 11.30pm very little activity so I was a tad surprised to find over 40 in the trap this morning.
Of note, the tiny micro Borkhausenia fuscescens was new for my parish records whilst the first common rustic of the year increased the macro year list to 133 species. This will be an almost ever present now for a fair few weeks.

1st common rustic of the year: many more will follow! |
A late afternoon trip to Westland Green, an area of uncut meadow containing sedges, bird's foot trefoil, bugle and meadow buttercup failed to come up with any burnet moths. Plenty of meadow browns, small and Essex skippers and a few marbled whites and ringlets, but moth wise great for fanciers of
Chrysoteuchia culmella, with 7 netted and potted within 10 minutes. Plenty others flushed. 2 silver Y,
Celypha lacunana and a single
Eucosma cana were all noted in the half hour search.
