The moth trap was bursting as I arrived at 6.15am today, in drizzle. After beginning to identify the contents, the rain fell even heavier, so I closed the trap at returned indoors. Eventually the rain ceased and I was able to record 160 moths of 65 species. A good haul for one night. Strangely, in such high numbers nothing was new for the year or for parish records, but 3 have been retained for confirmation of species, so these may add to the list.
Numbers were supplied by: 6 common footman, 5
Pleuropyta ruralis, 10 riband wave, 6
Emmelina monodactyla, 6 common wainscot, 13
Chrysoteuchia culmella, 5 clay and 6 heart and dart. More unusual ones were:
Acleris holmiana, Elephant hawkmoth, brown line bright eye and red twin spot carpet.
