Village wander

A wander up Brick Kiln Hill, around the polo fields and returning via Ford Hill this afternoon. Not much on offer with just 2 speckled wood butterflies witnessed along with 23 bird species. The yellow wagtails (very distant, photo 1) were still in the polo horses' field, now increased to 6 with well over 50 pied wagtails. 2 little owls were heard and about 150 swallows were either on wires (2) or heading south.
A party of goldfinches flew by, in all 11 on the group. Some shown in photo 3 whilst a common hoverfly, Syrphus ribesii was found feeding on hedge parsley (last photo)
