A trip to Amwell N.R. yesterday evening gave views of several new birds for the year; cuckoo, lesser whitethroat, swift, common tern, little ringed plover and sedge warbler. Birds were, on the whole too distant for photographs, so a view of the River Lea that runs adjacent to the reserve + chiffchaff and blackcap.
This morning a cuckoo was heard from our patio. The 1st I've heard within the parish. This afternoon, in warm air, there were plenty of orange tip butterflies on the wing.
