A very foggy morning as I set off from Winding Hill, stopping for coffee at Ash Valley GC. Highlight was 7 mandarin duck that were flushed from their overnight roost in trees near the golf course. They headed off to their usual day time spot in Caley Wood. Green and great spotted woodpeckers called but much remained as it has been for several months. Another item of note was the complete absence of fieldfare and redwing. Perhaps the warmer days have encouraged them to move back to Scandinavia.
3 March moth and 1 small brindled beauty was all the light trap offered. After a warm day lack of cloud cover meant low night time temperatures, hence few moths.
Photo of a cock pheasant, one enhanced the other showing the poor light conditions.
