An early start to North Kent along the Thames and Medway. On the sea wall at Allhallows at first light for plenty of skylarks, shelduck (100's) plus golden plover, 3 grey plover, redshank, dunlin and oystercatchers. Canada and greylag geese over along with a few mute swans and brent geese, whilst a solitary turnstone was observed. Then, on to Cliffe for more of the same plus plenty of little grebes, several great crested grebes and courting goldeneye. Several pairs of pintail were present on the Flamingo lagoon; always a good sight. Then onto Northward Hill reserve where we added snipe, jay, shoveler, great spotted woodpecker and song thrush.
Red admiral, peacock and a probable female orange tip were 1st butterflies for the year whilst on the mammal front a splendid weasel at Cliffe and 2 foxes at Northward made for an all round good nature session. Photos of an escaped Carolina wood duck, little egret and an acrobatic starling, plus views of Allhallows at first light and a view iver the lagoon at Northward. Finally, the strange sight of what appears to be a ship heading across the fields, actually on the Medway.
