Improved mothing

Last night looked a lot better for moth trapping and so it proved. A total of 88 moths of 45 species, including 4 new parish records and one new for the year.
New for my parish records were: Acleris cristana, Euzophera pinguis, Bryotropha affinis and the tricky to identify Caryocolum blandella. The latter was hard as it is not shown in the 2 field guides I have and, whilst not rare, is an uncommon resident within Herts.
The new for year moth was Acleris variegana, showing last night in both forms.
These moths take my year totals to 172 micro moths and 170 macro moths, a total of 342 species. Would be good to make 400 species this year but a long way to go and hard to find another 58 species.
Acleris cristana

Euzophera pinguis
