Making a little more effort to record as many garden moths as possible. Consequently, at the trap listing and potting until gone midnight and returning as soon as I wake, usually about 4.30.
On Sunday night/Monday morning, a total of 115 moths of 50 species, with nut tree tussock the only new for year moth in the haul. Less regular visitors, albeit common were: light arches, Acleris holmiana, drinker, fern and brown tail.
Today: Monday night/Tuesday morning, 118 of 50 species with bordered beauty, Catoptria pinella and yellowtail being new for the year. Several Coleophora specimens sent for gen det.
All in all, a good start to National moth week, with, for me, culminating on Thursday night with a series of traps running in local woodland. Should be good for over 300 moths at least, if the weather forecast is to be believed. These new moths mean I am almost up to 300 species for the year and now passed 2500 moths for the year in total.
