Village Wander 03.03.14

I was dropped off at Tescos and enjoyed a sunny and warm walk back home along local footpaths. All a bit of a quagmire after even more rain last night, but some good birds.
In total: 4 sparrow hawks and 2 common buzzards were noted. The second buzzard, shown here, is a new one to the parish

This bird shows a distinctive pattern underneath and not one I have noted before in the area. It may well be a second year bird as still has adult plumage to gain, especially the terminal band on the underside of the tail.
Fieldfares and redwings were seen along the path leading to Millfield Lane and more of the former on the polo fields. In all, over 50 fieldfare. Several green woodpeckers and yellowhammers were also seen along with the residents heard singing at this time of the year (dunnock, robin, tits and finches)
A red legged partridge covey was flushed from a hedgerow (14) and a muntjac seen near Green Street. As I wandered down Brick Kiln Hill into the village the clouds were gathering and within 10 minutes of getting home, the heavens opened. Certainly good timing.
