An evening walk up to Caley Wood pits and back over the golf course. Good selection of birds with a singing nuthatch being the highlight. Several stock doves were observed along with a male kestrel on the golf course. 2 grey herons were seen heading south, probably to their roost at Amwell gravel pits nature reserve near Ware. Yellowhammers called as did many green woodpeckers. A great spotted woodpecker called from Caley Wood.
2 comma butterflies were seen near Caley Wood. Photographs attached show one of these, along with two shots of the male nuthatch and a great spotted woodpecker. The last shot taken near the 2nd green on the golf course.
