Having recently moved into the village I aim to establish three or four patch walks around the vicinity, recording the flora and fauna of the district.
Yesterday's wander was to the north and west of Hadham Ford and recorded 27 species of bird. The highlight was a nuthatch on a footpath south of Chapel Lane. Good numbers of corvids were counted along with fieldfares and redwings in good numbers. Green and great spotted woodpeckers were observed whilst jays argued and chaffinches made the most of the pheasant feeders. This area shows plenty of potential for bird species, with good cover in a variety of vegetation, along with open fields and deciduous woodland. Interspersed in these woods are coniferous trees, offering food for the more specialised bird feeders. Probable species should be goldcrest.
I plan to keep a regular diary here, adding photographs where appropriate of both the wildlife and the views. Feel free to add comments and I will be more than happy to receive any information regarding birds in the district. Please bear in mind not to mention on open forums such as this any sensitive breeding species, remembering that certain species begin their breeding as early as Feb/March. I thank you for you consideration in this.
